Description

The headstone or memorial stone is dedicated to Joseph Crapp and dates from 1770. It is located approximately 6 meters east of the chancel of the Church of Saint Mylor. This slate monolith features cyma-shaped corners flanking a nowy-head. The east side has a deeply incised inscription that reads: "In memory of mr. Joseph Crapp ship wright who died 25th Nover 1770 Aged 43 years. Alas Frend Joseph His End was All most Sudden As thou the mandate came Express from heaven his foot it Slip And he did fall help help he cries & that was all." The lettering is carefully cut but poorly spaced, resulting in a charming piece of work.
