Description
Basset Count House is a count house for the former Wheal Basset copper and tin mine, built in the later 19th century and altered and extended since. The building is constructed from uncoursed granite rubble with quoins and has a slurried slate roof. It has a rectangular plan, although there are recent additions on three sides. The structure has three storeys, except for the entrance front on the south side where the rising slope makes the ground level at the first floor. This wall is mostly covered by a modern two-storey porch, leaving one 12-pane sashed window on each floor at the right-hand end. The west end is similarly covered at the ground and first floor levels, but there are two 12-pane sashes at the second floor, one of which is round-headed. On the north side, the wall features a vertical joint with quoins on the left half, a doorway and window to the left of this, a ventilator, and a tall round-headed window above. To the right, there is a segmental-headed 12-pane sash on each upper floor. There are also additions to the east end. The roof is half-hipped, and there is a chimney on the east end wall. The interior has been altered.
