Description
The chimney at Wheal Basset Mine, located at SW 689 401, is a Grade II listed structure dating from the late 19th century. It is constructed from uncoursed granite rubble and brick, featuring a tapered cylindrical shape that appears to be intact. At the top, there is a cornice marking the transition to the brick stage. This chimney was originally built to serve a winder for a mine shaft to the east, which was never developed. Instead, it was adapted to operate Lyle's shaft to the west using ropes on pulley stands. The chimney is included for its group value with nearby engine houses and West Basset stamps, located approximately 200 meters to the west.
