Description
The fountain, located about 12 metres south of Mount Edgcumbe House, is constructed from re-used materials and likely dates from the early 20th century. It features two bronze dolphins positioned on a granite pier, which is actually a re-used window mullion. The fountain is enclosed by sandstone rubble walls that include a round-headed niche at the back. Above the dolphins, there is a stone sarcophagus topped with a segmental pediment adorned with acroterial ornaments and a central medallion supported by winged figures. The dolphins were originally used as hot and cold water taps for a bath built in the late 18th century at the rear of the English Garden House.
