Description
The engine house at SW 480357 is a Grade II listed building dating from the early 19th century. It features granite rubble construction with granite dressings. The engine house has an unusually narrow rectangular plan, with a central doorway in the thicker north bob wall and a round chimney located at the rear. The walls are thicker up to about two-thirds of their height, possibly heightened in the later 19th century. There are window openings positioned high up in both side walls.
Adjoining the right-hand side wall is a later 19th-century boiler house, and to the right of this is a slightly later parallel workshop or dry. These additions are at a lower level and are accessed by a flight of granite steps outside the bob wall of the engine house. The original 19th-century machinery and floors have been removed, and there is a 20th-century iron windlass in front of the building.
