Description

The Devonport Inn is an inn dating from around 1740, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rendered rubble with a slate roof and a brick gable end stack on the right side. Originally planned as a two-room layout with a central entrance passage, a stair hall to the rear right, and a rear service wing to the right, the front rooms were later combined into one, and the entrance moved to the left.

The building is three storeys high and has three bays. The windows are four-pane sashes, with segmental heads; those on the first and second floors are replacements from the 20th century. A 20th-century porch with a front and side entrance door is located on the left.

Inside, the stairwell to the rear right contains a dog-leg staircase from the ground floor to the first floor, with splat balusters and a moulded handrail. A straight flight of stairs connects the first to the second floor. On the first floor, the front left room features a moulded plaster cornice and a particularly fine corner cupboard with a fluted shell recess, shaped shelves, pilasters, a round arch with a key stone, and panelled cupboards below. A two-panelled door leads to an adjacent room. On the second floor, two-panelled doors serve the front rooms, and the front left room has panelled cupboards with butterfly hinges.
