Description
Higher Trelease Farmhouse, along with its garden walls, dates from the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed from slatestone rubble and features brick arches. It has hipped scantle slate roofs and two large stone rubble chimney stacks: one is located over the rear wall of the left-hand room and serves the wing beyond, while the other is a large external lateral stack on the right-hand side wall of the wing at the rear of the right-hand room. The wings have hipped roofs that are at right angles to the main roof, creating a valley between them.
The farmhouse has a layout consisting of two equal reception rooms flanking a central through passage, which connects to an axial passage leading to another entrance on the right side, between the right-hand room and the kitchen wing. There is an additional room at the rear of the left-hand room, a porch at the back of the passage, and a small room, likely a fuel store, attached to the right side.
The building is two stories tall and features a symmetrical three-window front on the north side, with a central doorway that has a panelled door. All window openings contain original hornless sashes with glazing bars and shallow brick arches. The farmhouse also has cast iron ogee gutters. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to be little altered. The garden walls are made of rubble and are coped. This prominent building is situated on high ground and is noted for its impressive stone stacks in a vernacular style, remaining externally unaltered since the mid-19th century.
