Description
Coombe Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of painted slatestone rubble, featuring slate sills and wooden lintels. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos, with brick chimneys positioned over the gable ends but set back from the ends. The layout consists of two equal rooms on either side of a central cross passage leading to the stairs. The building has two storeys and a symmetrical three-window south front with a central doorway. There is an early 20th-century glazed gabled porch with a shaped bargeboard and marginal panes on the door and windows. The main windows are 16-pane horned sashes. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to be little altered. Coombe Cottage appears on a late 18th-century map and is situated in an unspoiled and beautiful valley overlooking Cowlands Creek, forming part of a group of houses that have mostly remained unchanged since the 18th and early to mid-19th centuries.
