Description

The lime kiln at Roundwood Quay dates from the early 19th century and is constructed from slatestone rubble and brick. It has a square plan with a round kiln inside and an entrance on the south side. The structure is built into a steep bank below the road. Recently rediscovered and excavated, the kiln is roofless but remains fairly complete, featuring a brick lining of headers within the kiln and much of the perimeter walling intact, along with the side walls of the working area and hearth. The kiln was mentioned in an advertisement in the West Briton on September 7, 1832, when it was offered to let by Lord Falmouth.
