Description

Churchtown House, dating from the early 19th century, is a house constructed with a granite ashlar front and granite rubble elsewhere, featuring granite dressings. It has a concrete tile half-hipped roof with stone stacks over the hips. The building has a double depth plan, likely with two similarly sized rooms at the front on either side of a central entrance hall that leads to a stair hall between rear service rooms.

The house is two storeys plus an attic and has a symmetrical three-window west front. This front includes a central round-headed doorway with rusticated long and short voussoirs above impost cornices and a plinth. The doorway likely contains the original panel door with a fanlight. There are three hipped roof dormers, and all windows are late 19th or 20th century 16-pane horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.

In front of the house, there is a shallow forecourt with low ashlar walls topped by early 19th century iron railings. The forecourt features a central gateway with an iron gate.
