Description
Trecara Lodge and the attached forecourt walls are two adjoining villas built in the early 1830s, likely by Philip Sambell. They feature stucco on masonry and have hipped roofs covered with asbestos slate, which have wide eaves supported by moulded brackets and a bead and reel cornice. There is one brick chimney on the left side of No.2A and a stuccoed chimney on No.2. The villas have an L-shaped plan, with No.2 facing south and No.2A facing east onto Edward Street. Both houses are two storeys tall and each has a three-window front with a central domed niche on the ground floor. They are adorned with panelled giant corner pilasters and moulded stucco architraves around the original sash windows, except for the first floor of No.2A, which has copies. The ground-floor sashes feature marginal panes, while the upper floors have 16- or 12-pane sashes. No.2A includes a stuccoed porch with corner pilasters, while No.2 has an elliptically-headed doorway with stucco rustications, a panelled door, and a fanlight. The interiors have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest. The front features low stuccoed walls with granite copings and iron railings.
