Description

Trelew Farmhouse, including the front garden walls and stile, is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. The front is stuccoed, while the rest is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. The main part of the house features a slurried scantle slate half-hipped roof, and the rear wing has a corrugated asbestos roof. There are brick chimneys on the side walls, and the rear wing has a granite coped gable end, along with the base of a dressed granite chimney and a 20th-century brick chimney.

The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan, with a double-depth layout and a later one-room service wing at the back right side, as well as an earth closet next to the front right corner. The original house consists of two front rooms flanking an entrance hall that leads to a stair hall situated between two service rooms.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window south-south-east front with a doorway that is central to the windows. There is a plinth and a first-floor sill band, and the original openings remain intact. A 20th-century ledged door with an overlight is present, along with an original 16-pane hornless sash window above the doorway and at the first floor on the right; the other windows are horned copies. A reused 17th-century chamfered lintel is located above the ground floor opening on the right-hand side of the rear wing.

Inside, the plan remains unaltered, preserving much of the original structure and joinery, including the stairs, although there are 20th-century doors. The moorstone rubble garden walls enclose a rectangular garden at the front, with an entrance in the right-hand wall featuring a granite stepped stile.
