Description

Toldavas Farm Cottages is a farmhouse and adjoining cottage dating from the 18th century, which was remodeled around the mid-19th century. The farmhouse incorporates reused stone inscribed with "1603 EG" and features a mid-19th century cottage. The buildings are constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings, including some reused 17th century fragments. The farmhouse has a slurried scantle slate roof, while the cottage has an asbestos slate roof. Brick chimneys are located over the gable ends and the cross party wall.

The overall plan is L-shaped, with a three-room layout for the farmhouse on the left and a two-room layout for the cottage on the right. The farmhouse has two front rooms flanking a lobby and stair, with a kitchen wing extending at right angles behind the left side. The cottage consists of a parlour on the left and a kitchen on the right, also flanking a lobby and stair. A large furze cupboard is located at the rear of the kitchen.

The exterior is two storeys high, featuring a five-window south-east front, with the farmhouse on the left having a three-window front and the cottage on the right having a two-window front. The doorways are approximately central to the fenestration of each front and have 20th century doors. The farmhouse has an early to mid-19th century 16-pane sash window at the first floor right, with other windows being later 19th or 20th century horned sashes. The cottage retains three original 16-pane hornless sashes and one later 19th or 20th century sash at the first floor right.

Inside, both the house and cottage feature mid-19th century carpentry and joinery. The cottage remains virtually unaltered since its construction and includes a 19th century cast-iron Cornish range and Victorian cast-iron grates.
