Description

Lower Porthcollum Farmhouse is a circa early 19th century farmhouse. It is constructed of painted rubble with granite dressings, and has a slurried scantle slate roof with brick chimneys over the gable ends. A large external rubble chimney breast is located towards the rear, on the right. The plan is double depth, consisting of two rooms at the front flanking an entrance hall, which leads to a stair hall between the rear service rooms. The right-hand rooms are slightly wider, with a parlour at the front left, a study behind it, a living room on the right, and a kitchen behind. The south front is nearly symmetrical, with three windows and a doorway and window above, positioned slightly left of centre. A 20th-century door is in the doorway. It retains original 16-pane hornless sash windows. The rear elevation also has original windows, including a taller 18-pane stair sash. The interior remains largely unaltered, retaining original features such as a dog-leg staircase with a hand rail curving down to form the newel, panelled doors, and a plaster ceiling cornice with a moulded band in the parlour.
