Description
Tremelling Farmhouse, including the front garden walls and gate piers, is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It features slurried rubble walls and a grouted scantle slate roof, with asbestos at the rear and brick chimneys on the gable ends. A large external three-stage rubble chimney breast is located at the left-hand end. The building has a double depth plan with two rooms at the front, the wider room on the left, flanking a cross passage that leads to the stair and service rooms, likely within an integral rear outshut. There is probably a back kitchen at the rear left, while the right-hand side is deeper at the rear under a shallower roof, likely a later 19th-century extension.
The exterior is two-storeys high and nearly symmetrical, featuring a three-window southeast front with a doorway that is central to the fenestration. The original door is a four-panel design, and the windows are 16-pane hornless sashes. A late 19th-century fretted wooden porch with a basket arch and cusped, pierced bargeboard adorns the steep gable. The interior has not been inspected but likely retains much of its early 19th-century joinery, including the staircase. Surrounding the rectangular garden at the front are rubble walls on three sides, with a gateway aligned with the doorway and round-headed granite monolithic piers.
