Description
This is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-17th century, with extensions likely added in the early 19th century. It is built of stone rubble with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends and a higher roofline over the range on the left. Stone rubble end stacks are visible on the right and left sides, with a rendered brick stack on the left and a stone rubble stack to the outshot.
Originally, the house likely comprised two rooms and a through passage, with a larger room on the right heated by an end stack, and a smaller, potentially unheated room on the left. A rear outshot was added around the late 18th century, featuring an end stack on the rear left. Around the early 19th century, a one-room-plan range was built onto the left-hand gable end of the original house, including a rear entrance and an end stack on the left. This extension likely had a staircase to the right, with a small stair window on the front elevation.
The exterior is asymmetrical, with a 1:2 window arrangement. The later range has a four-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors, along with a small, one-light casement, probably illuminating the staircase. The original range has a central entrance, a one-light casement to the left, and a two-light granite mullion window to the right. The first floor features one and two-light casements. The interior is not accessible.
The farmhouse sits in a remote location on the moor and retains its unaltered front and rear elevations.
