Description

East Rose Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-17th century, with extensions likely added in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of local stone rubble, which has been painted on the front elevation, and features a rag slate roof with gable ends. The left side has a rendered brick end stack, while the right side has a rendered brick stack that was originally an end stack but has been incorporated as an axial stack.

The original layout of the house is uncertain, but it seems to have included a two-room plan with a through passage and narrow service rooms at the rear. It is unclear whether these service rooms were part of the original construction or later additions, as there is no straight joint on the left gable end to indicate an addition. The ground slopes down to the right, where a one-room extension has been added to the lower right gable end, which was remodeled or rebuilt in the late 20th century, along with further single-storey extensions to the right.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical window arrangement with four windows on the left and one on the right. Near the centre of the original building is a partly glazed porch from the early 20th century. To the left, there are two 2-light casements in openings that were originally for 2-light mullion windows, with the lintels and drips above still in place. To the right, there is a 3-light mullion window and a 20th-century 1-light casement. The first floor features four 4-pane casements, and the range to the right has been remodeled in the late 20th century. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey in 1986.
