Description
ST BREWARD SX 17 NW 6/159 East Rose Farmhouse -
GV II
Farmhouse. Circa mid C17 extended probably in C19 and C20. Local stone rubble, painted on front elevation. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Rendered brick end stack on left and rendered brick originally end stack incorporated as axial stack to right. Plan: Original plan uncertain. The house appears to have comprised a two room and through passage plan with narrow service rooms to rear. It is uncertain whether these service rooms were built as integral or whether they are later additions. There is no straight joint on the left hand gable end indicating an addition. The ground slopes down to right and on the lower right hand gable end an extension of one-room plan has been added, having been remodelled or rebuilt in the late C20. further single storey late C20 extensions beyond to right. Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 4:1 window front. Circa early C20 partly glazed porch near centre of original building. Two 2-light casements to left, in openings originally for 2-light mullion windows, the lintels and drips above in situ. To right, 3-light mullion window and C20 1-light casement. First floor has 4 4-pane casements. Beyond to right, range remodelled in late C20. Interior: Not accessible at time of survey (1986).
