Description

ST BREWARD SX 17 NW 6/150 Bolatherick Farmhouse -

GV II

Farmhouse and attached shippen with loft above. Circa early to mid C18. Local granite rubble and moorstone with granite quoins. The house is slate-hung above ground floor and has a rag slate roof with gable ends and brick end stacks. The shippen to left has a lower galvanised roof with gable ends. Plan: House of two room and cross passage plan, heated by end stacks. The shippen continues on the left hand end; because the interior was not accessible at time of survey (1986), it is uncertain whether it is contemporary with the house or slightly later; although the rear wall is out of alignment with the house, there is no clear straight joint on the front elevation. Entrance to shippen on right of front elevation and external stair to loft on rear. Exterior: Two storeys to house on right and one storey and loft to shippen on left. The house has an asymmetrical two window front with circa C19 lean-to outshot infront of ground floor with C20 window to right. Two C20 windows above. Shippen to left has narrow ventilation slit and entrance with large granite lintel to right Interior: Not accessible.
