Description
Bolatherick Farmhouse is a farmhouse with an attached shippen, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of local granite rubble and moorstone, featuring granite quoins. The house has slate-hung walls above the ground floor and a rag slate roof with gable ends and brick end stacks. The shippen on the left has a lower galvanised roof with gable ends.
The layout of the house consists of two rooms and a cross passage, heated by end stacks. The shippen extends from the left end of the house. At the time of the survey in 1986, the interior was not accessible, so it is unclear if the shippen was built at the same time as the house or slightly later. The rear wall of the shippen is misaligned with the house, but there is no distinct straight joint on the front elevation. The entrance to the shippen is located on the right side of the front elevation, and there is an external stair leading to the loft at the rear.
The exterior features two storeys for the house on the right and one storey with a loft for the shippen on the left. The house has an asymmetrical front with two windows, and there is a 19th-century lean-to outshot in front of the ground floor, which includes a 20th-century window to the right. Above, there are two 20th-century windows. The shippen has a narrow ventilation slit and an entrance with a large granite lintel to the right. The interior details remain unknown due to lack of access.
