Description

This is an early to mid-19th century town house with a shop, situated on a corner plot in Liskeard. The front is stuccoed over masonry, with a hipped roof covered in grooved slate, moulded eaves, a brick and slate chimney on the left side, and moulded iron gutters. The building occupies a corner plot and presents a three-window range to Market Street and another to the Church Street return. The original hornless sash windows are largely intact, although two on the Church Street elevation are replacements with horns. The second-floor windows have nine panes, while the ground-floor windows are round-headed with fanlights. The Market Street elevation contains a recessed Art Deco shop front dating to the 1930s, with a tiled surround, slender square columns, plate-glass windows, and diamond glazing above transoms. A blocked, segmentally-arched doorway is located on the bowed corner. The Church Street return features a mid-to-late 19th century shop front, with a console above and a fascia with a moulded cornice. Blind windows are present on the first floor to the left, and on the second floor to the left and centre. Inside the shop are original counters and shelves. The shop front is a late example, notable for its architectural interest within a town characterised by largely intact 19th-century shop fronts.
