Description

This milestone, dating from around 1760, is located at NGR SX1785463357 in St Pinnock, near East Taphouse on the A390. Made of cast iron and whitewashed, it stands approximately 0.75 metres tall and features a rounded top with canted sides. The milestone displays black upper case serif lettering in relief, arranged in a semi-circular format, indicating distances to Liskeard (5½ miles) and Lostwithiel (6 miles). It was erected in conjunction with the turnpike road that opened in 1760, connecting West Taphouse to Liskeard and Cremyll Ferry, which served Plymouth.
