Description
East Largin Viaduct is a railway viaduct built between 1855 and 1856 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, with alterations made in 1886. It features eight piers made of rusticated snecked slate from Westwood Quarry, each designed with buttresses that create four distinct stages. The top stage, added in larger masonry, is supported by lattice girders from the 1886 modifications, replacing Brunel's original four raking timber trestles. The viaduct has iron guard rails and is slightly curved in plan. It is part of a series of viaducts constructed in quick succession along Brunel's Plymouth to Truro broad gauge railway line, which opened in 1859. The structure has not been inspected from below.
