Building At Approximately 25 Metres North Of Higher Spargo Farmhouse

This is a round building located approximately 25 metres north of Higher Spargo Farmhouse, likely dating from the 18th century, though it may be older. Its exact purpose is unknown, but it could have served as a malthouse, smoking chamber, ash-house, ice-house, or pigsty. The structure is built from granite rubble with some dressed granite.

The building has a round plan and features a doorway on the south side. This side has been partly rebuilt, resulting in a straight external wall where the thickness has been reduced. Otherwise, the building remains unaltered, with a high stone corbelled roof that has a central capstone, rising from the thick rubble walls.

It is a single-storey structure with overgrown rubble walls that adjoin two rubble and earth hedges at the rear left and right. The south front has a high doorway with remnants of an original corbelled arched head on the right, resembling those found on the outer doorways of 18th-century ovens in Cornwall. There is also a later monolithic jambstone further into the doorway on the right, which has iron pintails for hanging a door.

Inside, the earth floor reportedly shows some traces of ash, and the walls and roof appear to be blackened.
