Description
The Goose House is a structure that may have served as an ash-house, a dog's kennel, or a larder. It was likely built in the 18th century or early 19th century. Constructed from granite rubble with some partly dressed granite, it has a rounded rectangular plan that is wider on the right side and approximately 1 meter deep. The building is set into a stone and earth hedge and features a roof made of granite lintels that support the upper part of the hedge.
A small square doorway faces east, with holes for two pintail hinges in the right-hand jambstone and a single hole for fastening a door in the left-hand jambstone, although the door itself is missing. This Goose House is one of two similar structures located in front of a house that is said to have been used as a buttery. These chambers may have been intended for butter storage.
