Description

The jetties and boatshed at Mashford's Boatyard date from the 18th century and are situated in Maker-with-Rame, Cremyll. The structure consists of three jetties that form a double basin, with a boatshed located on the jetty to the west. The jetties are constructed from limestone rubble, arranged in both vertical and horizontal sections, and feature rough limestone copings. The boatshed is also made of limestone rubble and has a hipped slate roof.

The three jetties create two elliptical basins that serve as a graving yard. The jetty to the east has a square nose, the central jetty is triangular-nosed, and the jetty to the west has a round nose. The two outer jetties nearly meet at the entrance, allowing the basins to be closed and drained for dry dock purposes in boat-building.

The boatshed is two stories high and includes a single-storey wing with a hipped roof at the front, while the main block has a corrugated asbestos half-hipped roof. The front of the boatshed features double doors with a timber lintel facing the waterfront. The left side has a door and a casement window in the front wing, and the rear block has a door with casement windows on both sides, along with a central ladder leading to a wide upper door with window openings on either side. There is also a single light under the eaves at the rear.

Inside, the main building has a four-bay roof, with some 18th-century tie beams still in place, crossed and pegged principals, and three rows of purlins. Most of the roof members have been replaced in the 20th century and include rooflights. Additional 20th-century sheds are attached around the basins.
