Description

The outbuilding located 5 metres to the north of Holwood is a 17th-century structure with an uncertain original use. It is built of stone rubble and incorporates several pieces of reused dressed granite, including mullions and cills. The building features large quoins at the left-hand corner and has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends.

The front of the building is two storeys high and has a regular three-window arrangement. On the ground floor, there are two windows with timber frames, 19th-century mullions, and iron stanchion bars, along with timber lintels. The right-hand opening is partly blocked, and there is a door near the centre that features a reset granite arch, which has a three-centred chamfered design with chamfered jambs and run-out stops. The spandrels have incised triangles with small central balls. The first floor has three two-light windows with 19th-century timber mullions and stanchion bars. The right-hand gable end has a new opening inserted, while the left-hand gable end has been partly rebuilt.

Inside, the building has heavy chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops. The roof consists of seven 17th-century trusses, with later trusses added in between. The heavy 17th-century principals have cambered collars and are cut for trenched purlins, with the straight feet of the principals resting directly on the wall plate.
