Description
Westhill is a suburban villa built in the early 19th century. It features incised stucco on rubble, with a plinth and incised pilasters. The building has a mid-floor guilloche frieze and a moulded eaves cornice, topped by a hipped asbestos slate roof. There are brick stacks over the rear wall of the front range on the left and another over the rear gable. The villa has a double-depth plan that includes a rear wing and a lean-to, standing two storeys over a basement with a symmetrical three-window garden front. The original hornless sash windows with glazing bars are present on the side elevations, and there is a central niche on the ground floor.
The entrances to the rear wings include a large box porch with a moulded cornice and later glazing. Inside, the villa retains many original features, including an open-well staircase with turned newels, a ramped handrail, and stick balusters. The front reception rooms have moulded and carved ceiling bands, along with panelled shutters. There is a niche at the rear of the right-hand room and moulded wooden chimneypieces in the front and rear left-hand chambers, although one chamber has been boarded over. A marble chimneypiece with turned columns and corner blocks with roundels is likely a slightly later addition.
