Description

The terrace walls located approximately 40 metres north of The Downs in Hayle were built around 1880 for Mr. Rawlings and designed by E. and J. D. Sedding. These walls are made of granite and elvan rubble, featuring granite dressings. The structure includes a retaining wall at the front of a rectangular terrace, topped with a low parapet. Aligned with the north doorway of The Downs, there is a double flight of steps consisting of six steps in the lower flight and five steps in the upper flight. The steps are flanked by plain rubble balustrades with moulded coping, which end in ashlar square-on-plan piers or newel posts that have moulded caps.
