Description
Demerara Cottage is an early 19th-century house located on Southville Place in Bristol. It is built of limestone ashlar and features a double-depth plan, standing two storeys tall with a basement and a three-window range. The front of the house is symmetrical, adorned with clasping pilasters, a first-floor plat band, a cornice, and a parapet. A flat canopy supported by scrolled consoles and featuring three guttae is positioned above the plain central doorway, which has a two-panel door and an overlight. The window openings are plain, fitted with 6/6-pane sashes that include margin bars. There are steps leading from the area down to the basement, which has a 2/2-pane sash window. Inside, the cottage has a central hall and a dogleg stair with vase newels and a wreathed handrail. The property also includes area railings with floral finials atop a dwarf wall with stone piers.
