Description
The Louisiana Public House is a terrace of three houses that now serves as a public house, dating from the early 19th century. It features limestone ashlar and render, with the roof not visible. The building is three storeys high and has a twelve-window range. The irregular front is divided by pilasters and culminates in a coped parapet, which turns into Bathurst Basin at the right-hand end.
The left-hand section consists of three windows and includes a carriage arch to the left, a central semicircular window, and a right-hand tripartite window with a cornice. The upper windows feature pedimented lintels above 8/8-pane first-floor sashes and blind second-floor windows. The two central sections, each with three windows, have pilasters, a continuous cornice, and a doorway that boasts a decorative batswing fanlight and a six-panel door.
At the right-hand end, facing Bathurst Parade, there is a three-window range with a linked cornice and two doorways. The corner section has wide 20th-century windows and a 5/10-pane second-floor sash. A notable feature is the ironwork verandah supported by cast-iron columns with fretwork first-floor stanchions, located in the middle and corner sections.
Inside, the public house has a 20th-century interior that includes a cellar with a vaulted tunnel beneath the road, a dogleg stair with stick balusters and column newels, and a six-panel door on the first floor.
