Description

This is a terrace of 24 houses located at numbers 2 to 50 Picton Street, Bristol. Built around 1816, the houses are constructed of brick with limestone dressings and brick stacks. The roofs are not visible. The design follows a double-depth plan with each house originally having a basement and two storeys, each with a single window range. Later shop fronts have been added between party wall pilasters, featuring cornices and parapets of different heights. The doorways are topped with pediments supported by brackets, and feature fanlights above the original 6-panel doors. The windows are sash windows with 8/8 panes, and surrounded by stepped brick voussoirs. The group value of these houses lies in their contribution to the streetscape. Internally, the houses retain lateral dogleg staircases with stick balusters and turned newels, alongside cornices and ceiling roses in the ground-floor rooms.
