Description

A pair of attached houses dating from circa 1813, situated on Richmond Hill, Clifton, Bristol. The buildings are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings and a party wall stack. They are arranged with a double-depth plan.

Architecturally, the houses are in a late Georgian style, each with two storeys, an attic, and a basement. They feature a three-window range. The end entrance blocks are set back and have giant pilasters rising to a moulded coping and a parapet, with wide reeds detail to the party wall pilaster. The basement is raised and accessed by steps leading to semicircular-arched doorways. These doorways have bowed architraves with wide reeds, impost blocks with roundels, fluted keys, plate-glass fanlights, and six-panel doors. Number 14 has a single-storey porch with a keyed semicircular-arched doorway and a five-pane fanlight. The windows are predominantly six-over-six sash windows, with semicircular-arched windows above the doorways featuring interlacing heads. The interior of the buildings was not inspected during listing.

Attached to the front of the property are rubble garden walls, rusticated piers, and wrought-iron two-leaf gates. The buildings are noted in "Bristol, An Architectural History" by Gomme, Jenner and Little (1979) on page 230.
