Description

A pair of attached houses dating from the early to mid-19th century, situated on Gordon Road in Clifton, Bristol. The houses are constructed of stucco and limestone ashlar with limestone dressings, and have a brick party wall stack. They follow a double-depth plan, and are built in a Neoclassical style. Each house has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a two-window front. The symmetrical front elevation features a central, projecting three-window section topped with a pediment and moulded coping that ramps up over clasping pilasters, and a reeded party wall strip. The outer sections are two storeys high, although a later storey was added to number 8, with corner stacks forming clasping pilasters. Side entrance porches are present; number 8 has a half-glazed 20th-century door, while number 6 features a six-panel door. The windows have 2/2-pane sashes with blind semicircular arches above, and 8/8-pane sashes in the central section. The rear elevation is similar. The interior includes a lobby leading to a central stair hall with a lateral open dogleg staircase featuring stick balusters and a large turned newel, alongside six-panel doors. Attached to the front are rubble and brick garden walls and two pairs of capped rusticated piers.
