Description
Numbers 5, 7 and 9 Gordon Road form a terrace of three houses built in the mid-19th century. They are rendered with limestone dressings, have party wall stacks, and the roof is not visible. The houses have a double-depth plan and are built in a Neoclassical style, with two storeys, an attic, and a basement. The original six-window range is irregular, with one, two, and three windows respectively to each house. The design includes a moulded plat band, paired pilasters to a frieze, a dentil cornice, and an attic storey, with a second attic storey to number 7. A first-floor string runs across the facade. A semicircular-arched doorway is located to the left return of number 5, featuring a fanlight and a seven-panel door. Number 7 has a left-hand doorway with a four-panel overlight and a seven-panel door. Number 9 has a later single-storey porch with margin lights, overlights, and a 20th-century door. The windows have architraves, with tripartite glazing to number 5 (6/6-pane sashes) and 3/3-pane sashes to the attic windows. The interior of number 5 features an entrance hall with a side dogleg winder stair, which has stick balusters, a cast-iron newel, and a wreathed rail. It also includes a six-panel door, good marble fireplaces, and panelled shutters. The property includes attached basement area railings.
