Description

Numbers 1 to 6, Fremantle Square, Bristol, are a terrace of six houses built around 1844 by William Armstrong. The houses are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, and have a hidden roof. They are designed in a late Georgian style, each house being three storeys high with a basement, and two windows wide. The facades are articulated by pilasters that rise to a cornice and parapet. The right-hand doorways are semicircular-arched, with consoles supporting moulded canopies, 6-panel doors, and tear-drop fanlights. The windows are sash windows with 6/6 panes, and the second-floor windows are smaller, set within semicircular-arched recesses. The interiors feature cornices, ceiling roses, and a dogleg staircase with turned balusters and newels. Attached spear-headed basement area railings are also part of the property.
