Description
The Hercules statue, located approximately 100 metres south of Goldney House in Bristol, was erected in 1758. It is made of limestone ashlar and features a lead statue of Hercules holding a club, set on a panelled plinth with bowed ends. This statue is part of a notable and well-preserved mid-18th century garden layout. An inventory taken after the death of Thomas Goldney III in December 1768 mentions "1 Large Leaden figure of a Hercules," indicating that there were 17 figures in the garden at that time.
