Description
The Bristol Tramways Company Avonmouth Depot is a tram depot built in 1915, possibly designed by W.H. Watkins for the Bristol Omnibus Company. The building is constructed of brick with roughcast and features a tiled roof. It is a single-storey structure with a range of four garage doors, designed in the Arts and Crafts style.
The garage entrance piers are rusticated and feature alternate brick quoins. The middle garage gateways are topped with two steep gables that have tympana decorated with plaster cartouches. A brick plinth supports roughcast above, leading to a square entrance turret on the left side, which has a semicircular-arched doorway with herringbone brickwork above it and a clock face positioned above. On either side of the turret are Venetian windows, topped with a cornice and a cyma-curved cupola roof. The parapet is adorned with brick finials at each end. The right facade includes two smaller gables with pargeting and a date pad.
The interior has not been inspected. This depot shares a similar style and layout with the Company's Westbury Road depot, also designed by Watkins.
