Description
A pair of attached houses dating from the late 18th century, located on Ashley Road in Montpelier, Bristol. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar, with one having a slate roof and the other a tiled roof. They have a hipped mansard roof and a garden wall built of Pennant rubble. The houses are arranged with a double-depth plan, and each is two storeys high, with a basement and attic. They each originally had two windows across the front. Features include fluted pilasters, a frieze, cornice, and parapet. The house on the right has a French window accompanied by a small wrought-iron verandah and urn railings. The left-hand house has a semicircular-arched doorway with a moulded, keyed arch. The return frontage of number 129 possesses a three-window range including a semicircular-arched doorway with a Gibbs surround, side pilasters, and a fluted transom, a good fanlight, and a round-arched stair window above. The interior was not inspected, and the listing also notes the presence of attached front garden walls. The building is of group value.
