Description
The Bourne Hall Hotel Annexe is an Italian Gothic villa built around 1870, constructed entirely of fine smooth ashlar. It features a porch-tower on the east side with an arched entrance that is now connected to the hotel by a later addition. The tower has paired 'belfry' windows set under blind pointed arches, which are framed by a ballflower cornice. The eaves are decorated with encaustic tiles placed between consoles, although the original pyramid roof is no longer present.
Adjoining the tower is a flat-roofed vestibule that includes tall paired colonnettes with stiff-leaf capitals positioned between the windows. The window openings are adorned with scallop moulding on flat arches. The main south front showcases a large three-storey canted bay, with the wider top floor connected to the first floor by elaborately moulded squinches. This bay features a window supported by colonettes, foliage capitals, and scallop mouldings. To the left of the bay, there are paired windows on the first floor that have semi-circular relieving arches made of alternating slate-stone banding. The ground floor has a rectangular bay with flat window arches and scallop mouldings. The west flank has a narrow three-storey canted bay and plain mullioned windows leading to a service wing, the rear of which is constructed from buff brick.
