Description
No. 10 Church Street is a house that dates back to the early 18th century. It was originally known as Nos. 10 and 12 Church Street but has since been converted back into a single residence. The building underwent alterations in the 19th century and was restored and re-roofed in the mid-20th century. It features Flemish bond painted brickwork, a moulded wooden eaves cornice, brick gable stacks, and a tiled roof with stone slate verges. The house has a single-depth plan and includes a mid-20th century rear extension.
It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range. There is a ground-floor plat band and a left-hand doorway that is adorned with brackets supporting a pediment featuring mid-20th century joinery. The tripartite windows consist of central 8/8-pane sashes with segmental-arched heads on the ground floor, and a paired 4/4-pane sash is located above the doorway. The interior has been extensively altered in the mid-20th century, revealing an uneven rear wall with a small arched niche. Historically, the building's low proportions suggest it may have been refronted from an earlier house, and it once had a similar doorway at the right-hand end.
