Description

A pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century, located on Oakley Lane in Poole. The houses are built of yellow brick with moulded brick dressings, a brick ridge stack, and a tiled roof featuring bands of fishscale tiles. They are constructed in the Tudor Revival style, with a single-depth plan.

Each house is single-storey and attic with a two-window front. The design includes paired central gables and gabled porches, with eaves displaying sawn purlins. The entrances feature four-centre-arched doorways with label moulds and boarded doors including decorative false strap hinges. Mullion windows with two horizontal glazing bars are set within the gables; there are also small loops in each gable. Terracotta panels are positioned above the ground-floor windows and above the doors, which are marked with Gothic lettering indicating the numbers 41 and 42.

The interior is simple, with staircases leading from the entrance hall. These houses are part of a larger group of estate cottages, known as Lady Wimborne Cottages, named after the wife of the owner of Canford Manor and numbered for identification. They are listed as good examples, with group value alongside the other estate farm buildings on the north side of Oakley Lane.
