Description

A pair of estate cottages, dating from the mid-19th century and now combined into a single house, are located on Oakley Lane in Poole. The building is constructed of yellow stock bricks with brick stacks arranged diagonally and has Welsh slate roofs. It is designed in the Tudor Revival style. The original layout was a single depth. The building is two storeys high with a five-window front. A projecting, semi-octagonal bay with a hipped roof extends from the right-hand side, and a coped gable is at the left-hand end. A continuous label mould runs above the ground floor, starting from a four-centre-arched doorway next to a buttress on the right return, and finishing beside the left-hand end doorway. This label covers one- and two-light, four-centre-arched casement windows with chamfered surrounds and small metal panes within flat-headed recesses. Similar one-light windows are on the first floor. A large ridge stack has two diagonally-set shafts. The interior has not been inspected. The cottages originally formed the entrance to Cruxton Farm and are part of a group of estate houses on the Canford Estate.
