Description

A pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century, situated on Oakley Lane, Poole. They are built of yellow brick with moulded brick dressings, a brick ridge stack, and a tiled roof featuring bands of fishscale tiles. The architectural style is Tudor Revival, with a single-depth plan. The houses are single-storey and attic in height, with a two-window range. They feature paired central gables and outer gabled porches, and eaves with sawn purlins. The doorways have 4-centre arches with decorative label moulds and boarded doors featuring decorative false strap hinges. The gables contain 3-light ground-floor and 2-light first-floor mullion windows with casements and 2 horizontal glazing bars, all under label moulds. A small, round-headed window is present in each gable. Terracotta panels above the doors are numbered 82 and 83. Inside, the houses are plain, with stairs leading from the entrance hall. These cottages are part of a larger group built as “Lady Wimborne Cottages” for the estate of Canford Manor, and are numbered. They are significant examples, valued as a group with other estate farm buildings situated north of Oakley Lane.
