Description

No. 11 Oakley Lane, formerly known as The Dairy House, is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with remodels in the mid-19th century and a west extension added in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from carstone rubble and quoins, 17th-century brick, 19th-century brick with blue headers, and features stucco dressings. It has an off-centre brick ridge and right-hand gable stacks, topped with a slate roof.

The house has a three-room parallel plan with a central through passage and stands two storeys high, featuring a three-window range. The exterior showcases a mix of 17th-century and 19th-century walling, including a 17th-century stone lateral stack to the left of the entrance, a rubble plinth to the right-hand bay and gable, and 19th-century brick above. The entrance is located to the right of the central stack and features a cambered head above a panelled door. The windows are tripartite with 6/6-pane sashes, and flanking windows have 19th-century label moulds.

The gables have overhanging eaves and sawn purlins. Inside, there is a large stack with 19th-century and 20th-century fireplaces, and a chamfered lintel above the gable stack fireplace. Chamfered lateral beams extend across the ground-floor rooms, and there is evidence of a cruck frame at the first-floor level. The roof space contains 17th-century roof trusses adjacent to the chimney stack, and there is an original winder stair.
