Description
Nos 42 and 44 on High Street feature an early 19th-century facade that belongs to an older building. The exterior is finished in stucco, complete with a cornice and a coped parapet, and the roof is covered with slate. The building has two storeys and three windows, all of which are sash windows; two of these have late 19th-century glazing, while one is unbarred. The stucco dressings add to the architectural detail. The shop fronts are modern, with the shop front of No 44 positioned at the corner with Millhans Street. This building is part of a group that includes the Town Hall, Nos 38, 38a, 42 to 46 (even), and The Ship Hotel, alongside Nos 25 to 29 (odd), No 31, Nos 43 and 45, as well as the walls at the rear of No 29 and those in Druitt Gardens, which are all of local interest.
