Description

No. 27, along with its attached front railings and side railed wall, is an early 19th-century building that was originally a Masonic Hall and is now used as a house and offices. The facade is finished in stucco and features a cornice and parapet, with a string course at the first floor level. The centre bay of the building is slightly advanced, and it stands two storeys high with three windows and a blank window in the attic. Above the attic, the parapet is ramped up on each side to create a central pedestal that supports a vase. The high central doorway is flanked by Corinthian columns and topped with a pediment and a semi-circular fanlight. Iron railings create a quadrant on each side of the doorway, and there is a side railed wall at the rear. This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 25 to 29 (odd), No. 31, and Nos. 43 and 45, along with the walls at the rear of No. 29 and those in Druitt Gardens, forming a cohesive architectural context with the Town Hall and Nos. 38, 38A, 42 to 46 (even) and the Ship Hotel opposite. Notably, No. 25, No. 31, No. 45, Nos. 38, 38A, and No. 46 are recognized as buildings of local interest.
