Description
The Portsmouth Hoy Public House is a public house dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stucco and features tall gable stacks braced with iron from the ridge, along with a tiled roof that has stone slate verges. The building has a single-depth plan with a rear wing at right angles and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a three-window range. It is double-fronted and has a bracketed moulded eaves cornice that returns at the ends. The original doorway has panelled jambs and a cornice, while the ground-floor windows from the mid-19th century have flat architraves and bracketed cornices, now fitted with late 20th-century glazing. The first-floor windows are horned plate-glass sashes. The interior has been altered on the ground floor but is noted to have an attic stair featuring late 18th-century balusters.
