Description

Boatshift Warehouse, also known as Henning’s Wharf, is an early to mid-19th century warehouse, now a museum, located on The Quay in Poole. The building is constructed of rendered brickwork with an asbestos roof and features a rectangular plan. It comprises a 3-bay main range of five storeys and an attic, and a 7-bay side range. The front facade has a symmetrical coped gable with a stack featuring a cornice over the hoist bay. The hoist bay rises six storeys and has cambered heads over double doors with recessed hinges. A wooden hoist housing is situated on curved brackets. Casements with glazing bars are set within cambered heads, and the ground floor contains doorways. The facade to Buttons Lane is of red brick, while the facade to Ball Lane is similar with a rendered ground floor. The interior has been altered on the ground floor; the upper floors were not inspected.
