Description

The building at 135 and 137 High Street dates from the early to mid-19th century and has shop fronts from the mid-20th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, with rubbed brick arches—number 135 is painted—and has brick ridge stacks, with the slate roof concealed behind. The building follows a double-depth plan and rises three stories, featuring a six-window façade with a projecting centre giving a fenestration pattern of 2:2:2. A moulded cornice sits above the parapet. The first floor has plate-glass windows, while the second floor features sash windows with 3/3-pane glazing. The rear of the building includes gauged brick arches over sashes, a later 19th-century one-storey parallel range, and a two-storey rear left wing. The interior has been altered at ground floor level, but original cornicing has been retained on the upper floors.
