Description

151 High Street is a house dating from around 1800 that has been converted into a bank. It underwent alterations in the mid-20th century and early 21st century.

The building features Flemish bond brickwork with gauged dressings and vitreous headers on the rear and sides, brick lateral chimney stacks with a left-hand divided flue, and a hipped Welsh slate roof. It has a double-depth plan.

The exterior consists of a tall, three-storey central section with a basement and a two-window range. The broad eaves of the hipped roof are complemented by gauged brick flat arches over six-over-six-pane sash windows on the first floor, while the upper floor has three-over-six-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars and radial heads set in recessed semi-circular arches with impost bands, which connect to a similar three-window range in the single-storey wing to the right. This wing features a slate roof and is set beneath a recessed two-window range of six-over-six-pane sash windows with gauged arches above. To the left, there is a single-storey bay with steps leading up to a mid-20th century doorway, which contains a six-panel door with raised panels, a bracketed canopy, and a rectangular overlight. The left-hand return to Lagland Street has gauged brick flat arches over two horned sash windows, with an eight-over-eight-pane sash to the right and a ten-over-ten sash to the left. At the rear, there is a parallel wing with a hipped roof and similar fenestration.

The interior has been altered, and details were not inspected in 2021. Additionally, there are wrought-iron railings attached to the front of the building.
