Description
This former house or pair of houses was built in the mid-18th century and subsequently altered to become shop premises, with extensions added in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The building is constructed of red brick laid in a header bond pattern, with stone and brick dressings, and tiled roofs topped by a brick stack. The front elevation of number 92 High Street is painted. It has a double-depth plan along with rear ranges of varying heights, one, two, and three storeys. The building is three storeys high with basements.
The front elevation features stone quoins and a dentilled cornice above the ground floor, along with a dentilled block cornice below the eaves that rises to an open pediment above a central second-floor window. The ground floor is occupied by a pair of late-20th century shop fronts that extend the full width of the building. The first-floor openings are topped by gauged brick flat arches and triple keystones. The three leftmost bays contain multi-paned, horned sash windows. The windows in bays four and five (number 92 High Street) lack glazing bars. The second floor also has flat arches with gauged brick and triple keystones, with imposts to the semi-circular headed central window within the pediment. To the left of the central window are two three-over-three sash windows, while to the right are two enlarged plate-glass windows. The ground floor interior has been altered to create two shops.
